Book in Review: Gone Girl

I read a lot. I would guess that I average about 40 books a year. It's not uncommon that I spend a few hours on a "me day" and finish a book in one sitting. It just recharges me like nothing else can. I love getting lost in worlds that aren't our own and experiencing things that I otherwise never would.

I love sharing that feeling. That's what this Books in Review blog series is about. Sharing that feeling.

Gone Girl
Gillian Flynn

Quick Synopsis:  "On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?"

My Thoughts: It's really hard to write this review without including spoilers, but I'll try my best. I'll start off by saying that this is an absolutely excellent book. The alternating POV and the He Said, She Said structure of the book makes it a thrilling page-turner. One thing I will warn is that the ending had the readership divided pretty evenly down the middle. Some people loved the ending and some hated it. I, personally, liked the ending, but I won't tell you any more than that.

My Rating: 4/5 Stars

**This book has now been made into a well-rated movie starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.**

  1. Very interesting! I'm so jealous of anyone having time to read a book! I am reading a couple for studies I am in--but that is all I have time to do!

    1. It's definitely hard to find the time! I admit that I stay up later than I should after the kids go to bed, reading! haha. But I enjoy it so much and I had really been missing it, so I joined 3 book clubs as part of my New Year's Resolution.
